Australian Open: Top seed Angelique Kerber through to third round

Top seed Angelique Kerber has made it third round in Australian Open on Wednesday here in Melbourne. Kerber downed fellow German Carina Witthoeft 6-2, 6-7, 6-2 in the second round. Kerber now will face Karolina Pliskova in the next round. While, No.13 seed Venus Williams thrashed Stefanie Voegele of Switzerland in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the 2nd round of women’s singles.

Wawrinka edges Johnson in straight sets

Fourth seed Stan Wawrinka has been sailed into third round after beating Steve Johnson of America on day 3. The Swiss star defeated Johnson 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in a dominant way. Fifth seed Kei Nishikori of Japan also through to next round in the men’s singles. Nishikori trounced Jeremy Chardy 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.
